Should I include "business owner" on my resume?

Two years ago, I accepted a voluntary leave package from my employer after a seven & a half year career path with that company. Since leaving, I started my own business, converted my former home into an income-producing rental, and got some personal projects done. I want to work in the corporate world again, but I feel that two things are working against me. I feel that companies are hesitant to hire a business owner, and I really didn't gain current skills in my former job, as all of the computer programs and such that we used were antiquated. I did communications writing, content management and more but didn't use up-to-date programs that I can feature on my resume. Question is, should I remove my business ownership status...is that hurting me? Should I go to school to get some updated coursework under my belt? Any specific guidance is appreciated...thank you!
