Did anyone else watch the move "Expelled: No intelligence allowed" and find it perplexing?

The point of the movie is to say that intelligent design is being expelled from the classroom. But, why is it in the classroom to begin with? What theories has intelligent design come up with? How exactly has it furthered our understanding of the cosmos? How has it advance our science and technology?
