I would try to "tame" it. You said it seems like a stray. From what you've said, I don't see it as a threat. Is she comforted when the dog shows up when she's distressed? Normally, black is a bad thing, but not always. Now the eyes are kind of freaky. White and red would scare me. Does the color depend on your friends mood or maybe they change when you talk about it?
