What is the best route to becoming an attorney and would an AA in Paralegal Studies help in that process?

I want to become a lawyer and I have not yet started college. I'm considering going to a small private university that offers an AA in Paralegal Studies. After getting a job as a paralegal, that income could fund my furthering of my education to becoming an attorney. Is this a good plan, and if so, what degree should I pursue after receiving an AA in Paralegal Studies?
